Stand Your Ground Law Only can Be Used By Whites Only

Marissa Alexander is a woman who claims that she had to stand her ground against her abusive husband.  According to Alexander, her husband had been beating her while she was pregnant, and she fired a warning shot to keep him away.   To protect herself, Alexander got a gun permit and filed a restraining order against her husband.  But the judge in this case refused to believe that Alexander was standing her ground.

Oh, by the way – Alexander didn’t kill anyone.  She just used the gun to scare her husband away.  Zimmerman wasn’t arrested for weeks after killing Trayvon Martin, but Alexander is facing 25 years in prison.

Here is her appeal in her own words:

On August 1 2010, my premature baby girl, born nine days earlier, was in the Baptist South N.I.C.U. fighting for her life and I would too be fighting for my life in my own home against an attack from my husband.

My name is Marissa Alexander, I am a mother of three children, but at the present time, I am not able to be with them due to the following circumstances.  I am currently sitting in the Pretrial Detention Facility in Jacksonville FL, Duval County awaiting a sentence for three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with no intent to harm.  Before my life changed drastically on that August afternoon, I was in the perilous position of leaving an abusive relationship with my husband who has history of violence and documented domestic abuse towards women.  Our history included one which required me to place an injunction for protection against violence and was active during the month of August 2010.

In an unprovoked jealous rage, my husband violently confronted me while using the restroom.  He assaulted me, shoving, strangling and holding me against my will, preventing me from fleeing all while I begged for him to leave.  After a minute or two of trying to escape, I was able to make it to the garage where my truck was parked, but in my haste to leave I realized my keys were missing.  I tried to open the garage but there was a mechanical failure. I was unable to leave, trapped in the dark with no way out.  For protection against further assault I retrieved my weapon; which is registered and I have a concealed weapon permit.  Trapped, no phone, I entered back into my home to either leave through another exit or obtain my cell phone.

He and my two stepsons were supposed to be exiting the house thru the front door, but he didn’t leave.  Instead he came into the kitchen that leads to the garage and realized I was unable to leave.

Instead of leaving thru the front door where his vehicle was parked outside of the garage, he came into the kitchen by himself.  I was terrified from the first encounter and feared he came to do as he had threatened.  The weapon was in my right hand down by my side and he yelled, “Bitch I will kill you!”, and charged toward me.  In fear and desperate attempt, I lifted my weapon up, turned away and discharged a single shot in the wall up in the ceiling.  As I stood my ground it prevented him from doing what he threatened and he ran out of the home.  Outside of the home, he contacted the police and falsely reported that I shot at him and his sons.  The police arrived and I was taken into custody.

Once Again The System Fails Another Child.

A four-year-old girl who weighed just 18lbs when authorities found her starved, beaten and drugged body tied to a bed was so emaciated that every rib was visible, a jury has heard.

Marchella Brett Pierce was tied to her SpongeBob SquarePants bed with a skipping rope when she died in September 2010, prosecutors in the case against her mother and grandmother said.

Her dehydrated, starved body contained just a single kernel of corn when she died, they added.
The girl’s mother, Carlotta Brett Pierce, is on trial in Brooklyn, New York for her murder, while her grandmother, Loretta Brett, has been charged with manslaughter for failing to prevent the death.

Prosecutors recounted the grim details of the heartbreaking case that could also have been prevented by childcare workers, police have said.

The jury was shown photos of the girl, who weighed just 18.8lbs on her death – nearly half the weight of an average four-year-old – in which every rib could be seen, the New York Daily News reported.

Images projected on a screen in the court room also showed open wounds on her limbs from where she had been restrained, as well as bruises seemingly caused by a blunt force.

Restraining items, including brown twine, string and jumping ropes, were found tied to the bed. The filthy apartment was strewn with plastic bags, empty alcohol bottles and trash.

Empty containers of Claritin and Benadryl were in bins; prosecutors said the girl had up to 60 adult doses of Claritin and 30 doses of Benadryl in her system when she was found.

On trial: Loretta Brett, grandmother

President Obama Wants To Know Who Is The " Top Pimp?"

President Barack Obama called Sunday for a “thorough” and “rigorous” investigation into allegations involving prostitutes and Secret Service agents in Colombia.

Some 11 Secret Service agents and officers are being investigated over preliminary findings that they allegedly brought back several prostitutes to a hotel in Cartagena, U.S. government sources familiar with the investigation have told CNN.

“What happened here in Colombia is being investigated by the director of the Secret Service,” said Obama, who spoke in Cartagena, where he was in town for the Summit of the Americas event.

“I expect that investigation to be thorough and I expect it to be rigorous. If it turns out that some of the allegations that have been made in the press are confirmed, then of course I’ll be angry,” he said.

The alleged misconduct occurred before Obama arrived in Cartagena. The Secret Service personnel have since been sent back to the United States and put on administrative leave, the agency said. The U.S. military said that five U.S. troops who were working with the Secret Service are also under investigation for missing curfew and alleged “misconduct” at the same Colombian hotel.

“We’re representing the people of the United States and when we travel to another county I expect us to observe the highest standards,” said Obama. “Obviously what’s been reported doesn’t match up with those standards.”

Still, he cautioned: “I’ll wait until the full investigation is completed until I pass final judgment.”

None of the agents or officers being investigated was part of the president’s personal protective detail and Obama was not based at the Hotel Caribe, where the alleged misconduct occurred. But dignitaries and journalists reporting on the hemispheric meeting were staying there, a U.S. government official said.

Killing Of Young Black Teen Today Remain Me Of Lynching During Civil Rights Movement.

Prosecutors tentatively rejected a request by Pasadena police Monday to file an involuntary manslaughter charge against a man who made a false report of being robbed by armed men.

The volatile case has been compared to the fatal shooting of Florida teen ,Trayvon Martin by a neighborhood watchman. Both cases involved shootings of unarmed black teenagers by those who said they believed they had guns.

Pasadena police were seeking a charge of involuntary manslaughter against Oscar Carrillo, the 911 caller who said his laptop and backpack had just been stolen by two men with guns.

Authorities said the call led two police officers, one on foot and one in a car, to shoot Kendrec McDade, a 19-year-old college student. They said he reached for his waistband, seeming to confirm the caller’s report of a man with a gun.

Is this the age of “justifiable homicide”?

A juvenile with McDade was charged with two counts of commercial burglary, one count of grand theft and one count of failure to register as a gang member as a condition of his probation.

Police said the teens matched descriptions provided by Carrillo, witnesses and surveillance footage.

When Will The System Protect Our Children Instead Of Just Wanting The Money.

A toddler found dead in the back of a car last week had been abused for months, according to detectives who discovered him with broken ribs, bad bruises and whip marks all over his body.

Nineteen-month-old Zamontay Green’s body was found on March 25 when police in Tulsa, Oklahoma pulled over a car being driven erratically.

Driver Mica Shoate and passenger Jazmin Williams, both 22, have been charged with murder and permitting child abuse and are being held on $1 million bail.

An autopsy revealed the toddler died from blunt force trauma to the head, but detectives say Zamontay had also suffered a a horrifying catalogue of injuries in the months before his death.

Zamantay Green, 19 months, who was found dead in a car stopped by police in Tulsa, Oklahoma on March 25.
He had broken ribs, multiple bruises, subdural haemorrhage, abdominal trauma, and ‘loop marks’ on his legs, the result of being whipped with a rope.

Jazmin Williams and Mica Shoate claim they were driving the 19-month-old to hospital when their car was pulled over by police at 7pm.

They deny murder and insist they’re innocent of abusing the toddler – but their revelations to police paint a bleak and tragic tale of Zamontay’s short life.

Woman Beaten By Houston Police Officer.

A woman who said she was beaten when she tried to record an alleged incident of police brutality last week plans to set off an investigation through the Houston Police Department, said one of the activists behind the effort.

Annika Lewis, 26, went to HPD headquarters Monday to obtain documents that she planned to file with the department's internal affairs division on Tuesday, activist Deric Muhammad said.

The decision came as police representatives declined to respond to specific questions about the alleged incident.

"For this incident to be investigated they need to file an internal affairs division complaint," HPD spokesman Victor Senties said.

Muhammad said the family was in contact with the FBI about an investigation into excessive use of force.

Cleveland Police Knee Handcuff man

The actions of a Cleveland police officer, Paul Lowrey, are under review after he allegedly jabbed a flashlight into the abdomen of a handcuffed and subdued man during a Dec. 30 traffic stop.

According to Cleveland Police Department documents and a dash-cam video anonymously provided to the Advocate on Wednesday, Jan. 25, Lowrey hit the handcuffed man in his midsection before yelling at him to “do what he is [expletive] told to do.”

The use of force is allowed in making arrests, according to Article 15.24 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, which states that “in making an arrest, all reasonable means are permitted to be used to effect it.” However, the codes also states that “no greater force shall be resorted to than is necessary to secure the arrest and detention of the accused.” It’s the gray area between reasonable and unreasonable use of force, and how it applies to subjects already in custody, that now has the case under review by police department administrators and city officials.

Latinos Brown Skin Becomes The New Face Of D.W..B.

Four police officers from a Connecticut suburb have been accused of abusing their legal authority to harass, intimidate and deprive Latinos of their rights, the latest in a series of charges brought by the federal government against local police departments.

The charges against four East Haven police officers follow a Justice Department report last month that found a pattern of discrimination against Latinos and their supporters.

"We know and understand how difficult police officers' jobs are and how important they are to a free society," U.S. Atty. David B. Fein said at a news conference announcing the charges in East Haven. "It is for their benefit — and society's — that we at the Department of Justice are ever-vigilant in investigating and prosecuting wrongdoing by those who have sworn to protect the public."

East Haven police officers Dennis Spaulding, David Cari and Jason Zullo and Sgt. John Miller were charged with conspiracy, deprivation of rights and obstruction of justice in a federal indictment released Tuesday. The three officers worked the 4 p.m. to midnight shift, often supervised by Miller.

The indictment alleges that the group, "acting under the color of law did knowingly and willfully conspire and agree together and with each other ... to injure, oppress, threaten and intimidate members of the East Haven community in the free exercise and enjoyment of rights," the indictment said.

"In simple terms, these defendants behaved like bullies with badges," Janice Fedarcyk, assistant director of the New York office of the FBI, said at the news conference.

Nationwide, the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division is investigating 17 law enforcement agencies for possible violations, said Xochitl Hinojosa, a department spokeswoman in Washington.

Slave catcher at work

A video recorded during a police stop on Feb. 11, 2011, appears to show a Utica, N.Y., police officer planting cocaine in a black couple's car.

The surveillance video, which was recently released, has caught the attention of the Utica NAACP, which is up in arms over what the tape appears to show. The video, which is 1 minute, 40 seconds long, shows a police officer reaching into his back pocket, pulling out what appears to be a small plastic bag and placing it in the backseat of the car.

Less than 30 seconds later, the same police officer reaches into the car and removes what appears to be the same bag and walks away from the vehicle. The video does not show what happens next. The local paper, the Utica Phoenix, reported that the couple was frisked and handcuffed before the alleged planting of evidence.

The Utica Police Department says that the full video, which is 25 minutes long, exonerates the officer of wrongdoing. In a part of the video that hasn't gone viral on social media sites, police Chief Mark Williams says, the police officer took the bag from the man's coat.

"He's going into the car with it, and that's what he's doing. It's cold out and he's basically separating the drugs from both defendants," Williams told WKTV. "It's his car. He's the one that's turned that camera on. He should be fully aware that the camera is likely going to catch anything that's going on in front of him."
Williams has spoken with the NAACP and the FBI, who involved themselves in the matter late last week.
While this could be another example of the police doing two members of our community wrong, we've seen only the viral version, which surely has a lot cut out of it. We wouldn't be surprised to hear that the full video that the Utica police have exonerates the cop.
