Adults have more difficulty recognizing faces that belong to people of another race, and this deficit appears to start early.

New research indicates that by the time they are 9 months old, babies are better ableto recognize faces and emotional expressions of people who belong to the group they interact with most, than they are those of people who belong to another race.

Babies don't start out this way; younger infants appear equally able to tell people apart, regardless of race.

"These results suggest that biases in face recognition and perception begin in preverbal infants, well before concepts about race are formed. It is important for us to understand the nature of these biases in order to reduce or eliminate [the biases]," said study researcher Lisa Scott, a psychologist at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in a statement. In the study, 48 Caucasian infants were given the task of differentiating between faces of their own race and faces that belonged to another, unfamiliar, race. In another experiment, sensors placed on the babies' heads detected brain activity when the babies saw images of faces of Caucasian or African-American races expressing emotions that either matched or did not match sounds they heard, such as laughing and crying.

While 5-month-olds were equally able to distinguish faces from different races, 9-month-olds fared better with their own race. Likewise, brain-activity measurements showed the 9-month-olds processed emotional expressions among Caucasian faces differently than those of African-American faces, while the 5-month-olds did not.

Georgia Bar Owner Calls President Obama A Nigger Again

Georgia bar owner Patrick Lanzo of Paulding County has made habit of claiming he's not racist, an argument that becomes harder to make each time he decides to display the n-word on a large roadside sign outside his establishment, the Georgia Peach Oyster Bar.

Lanzo's latest message reads, "I do not support the n***** in the White House." He recently told a local reporter that the offensive wording was not meant to be racist.

"I say just because you're offended by it doesn't mean you don't have the right to say something just the opposite,” Lanzo said, according to a report from Atlanta's Fox 5. “I don't feel bad about anything whatsoever. Therefore, they can go out and put their own sign in their own yard and I will not be offended.”

Controversy is nothing new to Lanzo, who seems to bask in the negative attention each time he posts a new inflammatory message.

In 2009, Lanzo drew outrage with a sign that read, "Obama's plan for health-care: n***** rig it." Again Lanzo maintained it was just a simple health care protest and not racist, a strange claim considering he advertises his establishment as a "Klan Bar" and has a rich history of catering to some of the nation's most notorious racist groups.

Asked why he had chosen those words to express his feelings on the matter, Lanzoreplied, "Well, I've used it most of my life. There are different ways to putyour opinion up, but that's just the words I choose."

Church Of England Plays The Race Card For Next Archbishop

Claims that an early favourite to become the next Archbishop of Canterbury has been the victim of "naked racism" have been played down by the Church of England

The Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu has been targeted by an "anonymous whispering" campaign by critics trying to besmirch his name, according to his former aide Rev Arun Arora.

He said there was a "stark contrast" between the portrayal of Ugandan born Dr Sentamu and the treatment of other bishops.

In an article in the Sunday Telegraph, Rev Arora said: "At its best, the besmirching of John Sentamu has revealed that strand of snobbery which views outsiders as lacking class, diplomacy or civility - in other words 'not one of us'.

"At worst, it has elicited the naked racism which still bubbles under the surface in our society, and which is exposed when a black man is in line to break the chains of history."

Dr Sentamu has spoken in the past about his experience of racism but stressed that any abuse came from outside the Church.

Considered an early favourite for the top job in the Church of England, speculation has shifted in recent weeks and many now expect the Bishop of Norwich, Graham Jones, to win.

However many Tory MPs are said to have lobbied David Cameron in favour of Dr. Sentamu, who is seen as a more traditionalist candidate.

A Church of England spokesman said: "The blog from Arun Arora quoted in the Sunday Telegraph story is a month old and has already been widely quoted in a range of publications.

"There is a comprehensive process for selecting the next Archbishop of Canterbury, details of which are available online, and involves an extensive consultation process."

New Museum Is Showing The Real Racism In America

It is a museum which is probably best avoided for those with a sensitive disposition.

Provocative exhibits at one of America’s newest museum’s include a full-size replica of a lynching tree with many items portraying black men as lazy, violent or inarticulate.

The objects displayed in the U.S. state of Michigan’s newest museum are steeped in racism so intense that it makes visitors cringe.

That’s the idea behind the Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia, which says it has amassed the nation’s largest public collection of artifacts spanning the segregation era, from Reconstruction until the civil rights movement, and beyond.

The museum in a gleaming new exhibit hall at Ferris State University ‘is all about teaching, not a shrine to racism,’ said David Pilgrim, the founder and curator who started building the collection as a teenager.

Its name – Jim Crow – is often used to describe the segregation laws which arose after Reconstruction ended in 1877 and continued until the mid-1960s.


Mr Pilgrim, who is black, makes no apologies for the provocative exhibits. The goal of the $1.3 million gallery, he explained, is ‘to get people to think deeply.’

The displays are startling. The n-word is prevalent throughout and black women are shown as kerchief-wearing mammies, sexually charged Jezebels or other stereotypes.

The shocking images exact an emotional cost.

‘There’s parts in that room – the main room – where it’s quite gut-wrenching,’ said Nancy Mettlach, a student conduct specialist at Ferris.

‘And the thought that was going through my mind was: “How can one human being do this to another human being?”‘

Mr Pilgrim, a former sociology professor at Ferris State, started the collection in the 1970s in Alabama. Along the way, he ‘spent more time in antique and flea markets than the people who work there.’

Racism Is Worldwide, Have A Piece Of The Cake.

According to an article in Fria Tider (a Swedish publication), the minister of culture was celebrating with a “n–ger cake.” To add insult to injury, Liljeroth was invited to open festivities of World Art Day by — brace yourself — “performing a clitoridectomy on the cake” to bring awareness to the global practice of female circumcision.

If you think this story can’t get any more perverse, there is a video and photos of Liljeroth slicing the genital area of the cake and eating it. Did I mention that the body screams each time someone slices the cake?


Other than the obviously perverse and hateful nature of this heinous incident masquerading as performance art, Liljeroth isn’t your stereotypical racist. Prior to this incident, the politician had publicly taken a hard-line approach against racism, even changing Sweden’s press-subsidy laws in order to block tax funding of a nationalist newspaper. Liljeroth has been viewed as a friend in the fight against racism in a country known for being sensitive to such issues.

What is evident here is that what people think and what they do are two different things, particularly when it comes to race and gender.

When I saw the photo, I initially thought of Sarah “Saartjie” Baartman, commonly referred to as the Hottentot Venus. Baartman was an enslaved South African woman who was literally put on display as entertainment throughout Europe because of what the medical and scientific establishment regarded as her exceptional bodily form: protruding buttocks and an elongated labia.

Baartman was “exhibited” in London even after the abolition of the slave trade in 1807 and eventually sold to a Frenchman. In France she was exhibited under even more demeaning conditions, some at the hands of an animal trainer. She was the subject of several scientific paintings. Baartman died in 1815, and her preserved genitals and brain were on display at the Musée de l’Homme in Paris until 1997, when her remains were repatriated to South Africa at the request of President Nelson Mandela.

Liljeroth’s participation in the current heinous act demonstrates just how far we haven’t come as it relates to the treatment of black women’s bodies. The kind of pain, suffering and humiliation endured by Baartman — who was literally property from which economic institutions like slavery, and cultural institutions like museums, benefited during and after her lifetime — is met with little regard or sensitivity by those who would call themselves “anti-racist.” If Liljeroth is anti-racist, then Houston, we have a problem. This wanton act and her willing participation in it speaks to the perversion of power as it relates to race, gender and sexuality.

Why Do So Many Americans Have Guns? Is It The Fear Of A Black President.

There are nearly three hundred million privately owned firearms in the United States: a hundred and six million handguns, a hundred and five million rifles, and eighty-three million shotguns. That works out to about one gun for every American. The gun that T. J. Lane brought to Chardon High School belonged to his uncle, who had bought it in 2010, at a gun shop. Both of Lane’s parents had been arrested on charges of domestic violence over the years. Lane found the gun in his grandfather’s barn.

The United States is the country with the highest rate of civilian gun ownership in the world. (The second highest is Yemen, where the rate is nevertheless only half that of the U.S.) No civilian population is more powerfully armed. Most Americans do not, however, own guns, because three-quarters of people with guns own two or more. According to the General Social Survey, conducted by the National Policy Opinion Center at the University of Chicago, the prevalence of gun ownership has declined steadily in the past few decades. In 1973, there were guns in roughly one in two households in the United States; in 2010, one in three. In 1980, nearly one in three Americans owned a gun; in 2010, that figure had dropped to one in five.

Men are far more likely to own guns than women are, but the rate of gun ownership among men fell from one in two in 1980 to one in three in 2010, while, in that same stretch of time, the rate among women remained one in ten. What may have held that rate steady in an age of decline was the aggressive marketing of handguns to women for self-defense, which is how a great many guns are marketed. Gun ownership is higher among whites than among blacks, higher in the country than in the city, and higher among older people than among younger people. One reason that gun ownership is declining, nationwide, might be that high-school shooting clubs and rifle ranges at summer camps are no longer common.

Although rates of gun ownership, like rates of violent crime, are falling, the power of the gun lobby is not. Since 1980, forty-four states have passed some form of law that allows gun owners to carry concealed weapons outside their homes for personal protection. (Five additional states had these laws before 1980.

Illinois is the sole holdout.) A federal ban on the possession, transfer, or manufacture of semiautomatic assault weapons, passed in 1994, was allowed to expire in 2004. In 2005, Florida passed the Stand Your Ground law, an extension of the so-called castle doctrine, exonerating from prosecution citizens who use deadly force when confronted by an assailant, even if they could have retreated safely; Stand Your Ground laws expand that protection outside the home to any place that an individual “has a right to be.” Twenty-four states have passed similar laws.

The day before T. J. Lane shot five high-school students in Ohio, another high-school student was shot in Florida. The Orlando Sentinel ran a three-paragraph story. On February 26th, seventeen-year-old Trayvon Martin left a house in a town outside Orlando and walked to a store. He was seen by a twenty-eight-year-old man named George Zimmerman, who called 911 to report that Martin, who was black, was “a real suspicious guy.” Zimmerman got out of his truck. Zimmerman was carrying a 9-mm. pistol; Martin was unarmed. What happened next has not been established, and is much disputed. Zimmerman told the police that Martin attacked him. Martin’s family has said that the boy, heard over a cell phone, begged for his life.
Zimmerman shot Martin in the chest. Martin did not survive. Zimmerman was not charged. Outside Orlando, the story was not reported.

Student Get Action After Nooses During Black History Month.

SAN DIEGO -- The University of California, San Diego, has agreed to overhaul practices for handling complaints of racial harassment after a series of campus incidents that targeted blacks two years ago.

The U.S. Departments of Justice and Education said Friday that the school has created an Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination. It agreed to expand training for students and staff and revise policies and procedures to ensure they are consistent with federal law.

The federal government demanded changes after nooses and a Ku Klux Klan-style hood were found on campus in 2010 and students at an off-campus party dressed in costumes that mocked Black History Month.

Saggy Pants Law Is Just Another Attack On The Black Males.

A Prattville, Alabama man was sentenced to three days in jail for contempt of court for wearing saggy pants, according to The Montgomery Advertiser. 


LaMarcus D. Ramsey, 20, was in Autauga County Circuit Court to enter a plea on a charge of receiving stolen property when the Judge took issue with his wardrobe. Judge John Bush took specific issue with how low Ramsey’s blue jeans were sagging and sentenced him to three days in jail for contempt of court.

“You are in contempt of court because you showed your butt in court,” a visibly irate Bush told Ramsey. “You can spend three days in jail. When you get out you can buy pants that fit, or at least get a belt to hold up your pants so your underwear doesn’t show.”

Just Because We Have A Black President, Doesn't Mean Racism Is Gone.

Michigan State Police and Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) officials are trying to determine how an electronic road was changed to display a racist message about Trayvon Martin. The sign, which was located along I-94 along the border of Detroit and Dearborn, said “Trayvon is a Ni**er” and was discovered just before 1 a.m. on Monday morning.

“We were first notified at about 12:05 a.m. of the inappropriate message,” said Rob Morosi, an MDOT spokesman. “Immediately we dispatched crews to verify that the message had been changed and it was removed by 12:45 a.m. and replaced with the proper message.

Morosi said that someone hacked into a portable electronic sign that was attached to a trailer and was able to change the message. He said that the person who changed it was able to access the password controls to make the quick change.

“The sign is there as part of a big project we have at the I-94/M-39 interchange,” Morosi said. “Calls were coming in from motorists who were shocked, disturbed and every emotion you can imagine. The portable sign has a panel that was broken into. The message was changed and the keyboard was actually stolen.”

Since Zimmerman, Whites Feel They Can Kill Blacks And Get Away With It.

Police said special operations officers and other agents arrested two white men early Sunday, saying they were suspects in recent shootings that left three people dead and two others critically wounded, all black, in the Tulsa area.

Tulsa police spokesman Jason Willingham said the two men were arrested at a hone just north of Tulsa at 1:47 a.m. Sunday and they were expected to face three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of shooting with intent to kill. He said police acted on an anonymous tip and went to one location and followed the suspects after they had traveled about a half mile on foot to another place where they were apprehended. He declined to characterize that as a pursuit.

"There obviously still is a lot of investigation" ahead, Willingham told The Associated Press by telephone. "We don't' have a motive at this time. We are still asking questions and hopefully that will become clear in coming days."

Willingham identified the men in custody as 19-year-old Jake England and 32-year-old Alvin Watts, both white, but gave no hometowns for them. He said the two men were taken early Sunday for questioning at a downtown Tulsa police station and would be booked and then jailed.

It was not known if either man arrested had obtained an attorney early Sunday.

Owner Of Company Says Campaign Sticker No Racist, What You Think?

Paula Smith, owner of the company Stickatude.com, says that the anti-Obama campaign sticker that says “Don’t Re-Nig 2012″ isn’t racist.  During an interview with Forbes.com, Smith innocently claims that the bumper sticker was not a reference to the president’s ethnicity, and was simply meant to say that he’s a bad leader.

“According to the dictionary [the N word] does not mean black. It means a low down, lazy, sorry, low down person. That’s what the N word means,” said Ms. Smith.
Roger Friedman at Forbes.com makes this accurate point:

“In Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary, the word is defined as ‘member of any dark skinned race. Taken to be offensive.’ Dictionary.com says the word ‘is now probably the most offensive word in English. Its degree of offensiveness has increased markedly in recent years, although it has been used in a derogatory manner since at least the Revolutionary War. Definitions 1a, 1b, and 2 represent meanings that are deeply disparaging and are used when the speaker deliberately wishes to cause great offense.’”

Smith says she’s not a racist and doesn’t like Obama for reasons that are unrelated to his race.

“And besides Obama is not even black. He’s got a mixture of race. It’s his choice of what his nationality is. I’m a mixed breed. I call myself a Heinz 57,” she says.

“I just want someone that’s going to help the United States and not give it other countries all the time. And stop giving the immigrants the benefits that most Americans inside their own states can’t even get because they’re giving it others who don’t even live here as an American.

Black Leaders Are Stuck In The 60's, While We Fight A New Racist America.

A new Your Black World/Kulture Kritic poll shows that the majority of African Americans are disappointed in the state of black leadership in America.  When asked, ‘Are you happy with the state of black leadership in America?” 85 percent of poll respondents said that they were either unhappy or extremely unhappy with the current state of affairs.

Most of the respondents also seemed to feel that white media defines who the current black leaders are in America.  Readers were asked the question: “Do you think that predominantly white media determines who the black leadership is going to be?”  In response, 69 percent of respondents answered “yes,” while only 19% answered “no.”  The rest of the participants said they were not sure.

Finally, survey results claim that most African Americans believe that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are defined as predominant leaders of the black community.  Respondents were asked, “Do you think that most of America defines black leadership to consist primarily of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton?”  In response to this question, nearly 3/4 of survey respondents (74%) answered “yes.”

Zimmerman Has Support From Racist Friends.

As students at The Ohio State University approached the Frank W. Hale Jr. Black Cultural Center Thursday morning, they were met by three simple words loaded with a malicious meaning: Long Live Zimmerman.


The vandalism is in reference to George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch leader responsible for the murder of slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin.

Students immediately took to social media to express their anger, tweeting the university’s president and circulating the photo.

President Gordon Gee tweeted back stating, “Just learned of vandalism at our Hale Center. Deplorable act of intolerance– not who we are at Ohio State. Our Police are investigating.” He is expected to make an official statement about the incident Thursday afternoon.

The white spray paint has since been removed by a Student Life employee, but there are no suspects in the case.

Larry Williamson, director of the Hale Center, says they are working with University Police and are taking the necessary steps so that incidents like this never happen again.

“We want to be sure that these types of things don’t happen here at the Ohio State University,” Williamson said. “This is not the kind of climate that Ohio State is trying to have here at this university. The university prides itself in diversity and you have things like that that takes a step back.”

“We’re dealing with the situation with heightened security. We’re going try to make sure that we do everything possible that these types of things don’t happen.”

OSU students will meet at the Hale Center Thursday night to discuss the vandalism at their weekly Black Student Association meeting.

Duct Tape To A Chair For Standing Up.

A Bronx teacher is accused of duct taping her student to a chair because he wouldn’t sit down.
Sixth grader Irel Jones said another student was asking him for answers during a test so he got up, but then instructed him to sit down, and then taped to his chair by his teacher.

Jones says his teacher then looked on as his fellow students made fun of him.
‘She duct-taped my arm, my other arm and my stomach together and then she wrapped it [the tape] around the chair twice,’ he told myFOXny.com,

‘When he was duct-taped, the students were taking his chair and pushing it around the classroom, and the teacher was grinning’ said the boy’s mother.

The Department of Education said the teacher is still employed within the New York City schools system while it conducts an investigation.

Rick Santorum Finally Calls President Obama A Nigga.

There are few people on this earth that I love more than Abena Agyeman-Fisher, the editor at NewsOne.com.   A consummate professional and arguably the leading online journalist in the country, Abena is never someone I would accuse of being a liar.  But this morning, after rolling out of bed and sitting at my desk in my gym shorts, I really thought my colleague might have been hitting the crack pipe.
“Dr. Boyce.  Rick Santorum has a video up in which he refers to President Obama as a n*gger,” she said to me.

“What did you say?” I said, as my face twisted up like a newborn baby eating a piece of broccoli.  Even I couldn’t believe what my editor was telling me, and I thought she’d lost her mind.

Then, I saw the video.  Yes, he said it.  I’m sure the Rick Santorum campaign team is strategizing faster than Homeland Security after a terrorist attack to find any BS excuse to convince us that we’re not actually hearing what we can clearly hear.  But the evidence shows that Rick Santorum is running head first into the word “n*gger” as he describes the first black president.


I’ve watched this video 14.5 times.  I’ve meditated on it, prayed over it, laid hands on it, and sent it to my mama.   I had to take a moment to thank God that Rick Santorum, in his conservative brilliance, has finally released videotaped evidence of the kind of smoking gun that many millions of us can use to prove that he is every bit as racist as we’ve always known him to be.
