Woman Gets 20-Years For dragging Tow Truck Driver

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A Colorado Springs woman convicted of dragging a tow truck driver to death has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Detra Farries was convicted in February of charges including leaving the scene of a deadly crash, manslaughter and vehicular homicide in the death of 35-year-old Allen Lew Rose. KRDO-TV reports she was led away by deputies after Friday's sentencing.

Prosecutors had asked for Farries to be sentenced to up to 36 years in prison.

They say Rose was preparing to tow Farries' illegally parked vehicle on Feb. 23, 2011, when she drove off. Rose was dragged more than a mile after getting caught in a cable he had attached to Farries' vehicle.

Farries' attorney argued that she didn't realize Rose was being dragged.

Teen Killed After Jumping From Mom's Car.

- A 17-year-old Colorado girl died after jumping out of her mom's moving car straight into the path of oncoming traffic on a highway just outside Denver.

Catrina Fox kicked open her car door early Saturday and jumped onto US 285 in Jefferson County, Colo., where she was fatally struck by a car driven by another teenager, The Denver Post reported.

The incident happened as she was being driven home to Bailey, about 45 miles (72 kilometers) southwest of Denver, by her mother at 1:00am local time, after visiting a friend.

Her mother told cops that her daughter jumped from the moving car and was struck on the westbound lanes of the highway, State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis said.
