Black Florida School Board Member Puts Foot In Mouth, Calls Trayvon A " Faggot."

A Compton Unified school board member called deceased Florida teen Trayvon Martin a "faggot black dude" and school Superintendent Karen Frison a "bitch" during a recent podcast interview, and the statements are drawing outrage and disbelief from parents and the school community in Compton, Calif.

Board member Skyy Fisher's comments are captured in the YouTube video above. It starts with the hosts of Pigzradio replaying a KTLA interview with Fisher, in which he comments in an official capacity about an alleged sexual relationship between a Davis Middle School teacher and a student.

The podcast hosts mock him for his use of words like "alleged" and "accountable," since apparently it clashes with another version of Fisher they're more familiar with. "It's really funny to see Skyy on the news, but not being arrested," jokes one host.

The show then attempts to call Fisher but there's no reply. However, Fisher calls back, and it's unclear if knows he's being recorded as he proceeds to openly discuss the closed Davis Middle School molestation investigation. His opening line? "Oh my fucking god!"

Fisher's comments, which start at minute 7:22, include:

• "that white dude that killed that faggot black dude in Florida. I'm going to go out and try to search for this [inaudible]."
• "If you all see that George Zimmerman bitch, tell him I'm looking for him."
• "That bitch superintendent wouldn't give me a fucking district car, and I told that bitch that I was going to get her."
• "The daughter is like, doing bad in the class, and she's trying to get back at the teacher... The father comes to the board meeting, crying and shit to the board, talking about his daughter's been raped and all kind of bullshit. All of a sudden, this motherfucker has six attorneys."
• "Wow, so instead of you guys stealing the money, someone else is stealing the money from the district," says one host. Fisher's response: "Yeah! Yeah!"
• "We're meeting this Tuesday at 7 o'clock. Oh! You've got to definitely come. There's solidarity with this Trayvon Martin bitch, and I'm trying to get on news so I'm wearing the hoodies at the whole board meeting... It's the perfect publicity stunt. I'm going to wear a hoodie, the news is going to come out, and I'm going to announce my candidacy for City Council, goddammit."
• "If I saw myself walking down the street with a hoodie on, I'd shoot myself too!"

Black Family Locked In Restaurant For Refusing To Tip Bad Service.

Jasmine Marks told KPRC that she and her family and friends were locked inside a Houston restaurant after they refused to pay an automatic 17 percent gratuity.

The gratuity was added to the bill because Marks sat with a party of more than five, a policy clearly noted on the menu. But when Marks refused to pay because of poor service including rudeness and missing orders, she said the restaurant called the police and locked the door.

Despite Marks' insistence that the service she received wasn't worth a 17 percent tip, the bill was eventually paid in full.

The story generated mixed reactions when it was posted on Reddit.

"The restaurant should have just voided the gratuity," one commenter wrote. "They get the 17% from this family but then lose tons of business once this story makes the rounds. Basically the whole town has just found out their food and service sucks."

But another commenter said the diners were at fault since the restaurant had a clearly marked gratuity policy on the menu.

"It was on the menu that a party that size would have the gratuity included in the bill," the commenter wrote. "I will agree that 17% is a bit much, but they really have no right to complain."

In the end, perhaps Marks should be thankful that she wasn't arrested.

NBC Philadelphia reported that a Pennsylvania couple were handcuffed after theyrefused to pay a mandatory 18 percent gratuity at a pub in Bethlehem, Pa.

White Officer Gets Away With Murder Of A Black Man That Give His Life For This Country.

The officer who shot and killed 68-year old Kenneth Chamberlain Sr. in his ownapartment was cleared of all criminal charges on Thursday.

Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore said, "We did everything we could and should do to put before that grand jury every piece of relevant and admissible evidence" but ultimately did not find evidence to bring forth an indictment upon Officer Anthony Carelli, who had been identified as Chamberlain's shooter.

Carelli, along with other White Plains police, showed up at Chamberlain's home on November 19 responding to a mistaken medical alert after the former marine had accidentally triggered a device used because of a heart condition.

Despite Chamberlain's insistence no help was needed, a standoff occurred in which police claim Chamberlain attacked the officers with a hatchet, and that the subsequent shooting had been in self-defense.

Months later, it was revealed the officers had used several racial slurs while storming into Chamberlain's home, even allegedly taunting him with a taser gun.

Chamberlain's son condemned the grand jury's decision on Thursday as a "blatant cover up of the murderous tactics" employed by the police department.

In April, Carelli was scheduled to appear in court for a separate police brutality incident stemming from 2008 in which two twin brothers of Jordanian descentclaimed Carelli and his cohorts used police batons to beat the brothers and called them "rag heads."

Taco Bell Employee Force To Work For Tacos

Taco Bell loves it when you eat round the clock. But they don't seem to want to pay their workers for every one of the hours they spend feeding you.

A former shift manager at Taco Bell is bringing a class-action suit against the restaurant chain, claiming that employees are regularly forced to work overtime hours without pay, according to a report at Law360.

Plaintiff Alicia Sloan, who was a shift manager at Taco Bell for eight years, says that Taco Bell managers in Florida often shave hours from employees' time cards, meaning workers don't get paid for all of the hours they work. Sloan also says the managers themselves are sometimes forced to take on unpaid hours, according to Law360.

Taco Bell's not unique in allegedly not paying workers for overtime. In recent years,more companies have faced lawsuits from workers claiming they haven't gotten their fair share of overtime pay. These kinds of suits have continued to climb even in the wake of the Great Recession -- an economic crisis that allowed many employers to demand higher performance from their desperate workers, while not paying them much more than before.

Nor is this the first time Taco Bell has faced these kinds of accusations. In fact, the scenario sounds like an old controversy that's been reheated.

Boys Feel Reading Is "Girlie"

The implications of the news that girls have surpassed boys in reading -- at every grade level, in all 50 states -- and that girls are graduating high school and college with better grades and in larger numbers have not been fully absorbed by parents of boys. Show me a valedictorian, and odds are she's a she. Top 10 percent of your kid's class? Probably crowded with girls. Bottom 10 percent? Where the boys are.

Some parents, even teachers, have a fatalistic attitude about this, and reduce expectations for boys. The new cultural trope is that girls naturally mature faster, that they have better innate verbal skills, and so pushing young boys to read is unrealistic and vaguely unfair to their boyness. (Then how do we explain that all three winners of the last Google science fair were girls? Do we now believe that girls are just better at everything?) Let 'em be boys! Let 'em play!

No. We cannot accept diminished prospects for our sons, because the implications for their lives are so dire. There's nothing innately male about illiteracy. Boys today do worse on national reading tests compared to their own gender a generation ago. There's no mystery as to why boys have slipped. Boys read significantly less than girls, and less than their dads did when they were kids. Nine out of 10 boys today do not read for pleasure -- at all. As one boy put it: "I'd rather be BURNED AT THE STAKE than read a book!"

Where do boys get this new, crazy idea that reading is "girlie"?

From us. After all, Mom is usually the one who reads for pleasure at home, not Dad. (Women read almost twice as many books as men.) Typically, Mom reads the kids their bedtime story. Mom takes the children to the library or the bookstore. Dad throws a ball with them. At school they are read to or encouraged to read on their own by their (usually) female teachers, while their team coaches are (generally) male. Children's books reinforce this by portraying girls more often as readers and boys more often in action roles in illustrations in children's books. (Think Hermione Granger, the prodigious bookworm, in the Harry Potter books.) For birthdays, holidays, or "just because," we give books as gifts more often to girls and sporting equipment to boys. Kids get the message early, despite our best intentions: Girls read, boys do not.

Sheriff Deputy Order Black Inmates To Dance To Usher Song.

A northeast Ohio sheriff fired a deputy for ordering five jail inmates to dance to asong by Usher in exchange for privileges such as using a phone or microwave, the sheriff's office said Thursday.

The deputy was accused of ordering the inmates to dance on April 11, after they were locked up in a disciplinary area, and then inviting colleagues to watch.

The Summit County sheriff's office conducted an internal investigation after inmates reported the incident, and the 35-year-old deputy was fired this week for violating department policies by mistreating inmates, acting inappropriately and having a cellphone in the jail, apparently used to play the music.

One inmate did the worm as the deputy played Usher's "Yeah," while another said he did the robot so that he could use a phone to contact relatives after a family member's death, the Akron Beacon Journal reported.

"The community needs to be assured that all inmates that come through the doors of the Summit County jail will be treated humanely and with respect," Inspector Bill Holland of the sheriff's office said Thursday. "All allegations to the contrary will be investigated. We take these matters very seriously, and any member of our agency that does not share this philosophy will be disciplined accordingly."

Investigators said the deputy admitted making a mistake but told them he was only trying to ease tension in the jail. He also was cited for conduct unbecoming an officer and failing to properly document why the inmates had been put in the disciplinary area.

Arlen Bischke, who set up the site in 1988, does not recommend using the site to land a serious relationship.

In the FAQ section of the site, he admits: "The odds of everything working out are slim. There are just too many obstacles. I recommend the site for a friend/pen pal basis. It can be a lot of fun writing an inmate. I recommend not to send money to inmates.

"These men and women are inmates and are usually in prison for good reason. This is meet-an-inmate.com, not meet-a-girl-scout.com!"

Black Men Feel Prison Is Better Than Being Homeless.

Lance Brown was hungry and homeless, so he decided to get thrown in jail by hurling a brick through a glass door at the Columbus courthouse building.

Brown, 36, spent nine months in jail before his April trial. On Tuesday, he was sentenced to another month behind bars, and three years of probation that includes a six-month stay in a halfway house.

Brown's case illustrates the struggle prosecutors face when dealing with homeless defendants who resort to crime to seek the safety of prison. They weigh whether to devote scarce resources to prosecuting a lower-level offense with the burden that comes with upholding the law and deterring others from breaking it.

Faced with more nights on the street, Brown said he thought lofting the brick through the building would give him at least a few hours in a place where “someone's going to offer me a sandwich and drink.

U.S. Attorney Michael Moore said he had little other choice than to charge him with malicious mischief, a crime that carried a 10-year maximum prison sentence.

“The unfortunate circumstances in which Mr. Brown found himself cannot be a justification for destroying property of the United States,” Moore said. “And while I am personally saddened by Mr. Brown's plight, I regret that he chose to violate the law instead of taking help from those who offered it.”

Brown was previously convicted of bank robbery and released from a North Carolina prison in July. He headed to the courthouse in downtown Columbus with a strange request for hisprobation officer: He wanted to know what he could do to get back behind bars. The officer, Billy Johnston, offered him a list of social services, but it didn't take long for Brown to come up with his own answer.

He threatened to kill the president, a threat officers didn't deem credible.

Principle Tell Gay Students That They Are Going To Hell.

Haywood High School in Brownsville, Tennessee’s Dorothy Bond has reportedly not historically been friendly to the gays, but her latest comments have traveled far outside Tennessee and have many questioning her suitability to be in a position of governance over a student body and teachers. The site Towleroad ran what appears to be some second-hand commentary from students about what Bond allegedly said, as well as some of her earlier remarks to gay students.

The student says a gay friend was deeply hurt by the principal’s comments:

“At first she was talking about PDA and she turned around and she directly pointed to the gay people and said if you’re gay you’re going to hell and if you’re pregnant, you’re life is over,” Amber Whittiemore said.

Whittiemore wasn’t there to hear those words but her friend, who is gay, was. She called Amber in tears.

Haywood High School parent Tony Snipes says he was “outraged” by the comments, and says that Bond made similar comments at a previous assembly:

“A couple of years ago when she was principal over at Sunny Hill one of my children had his hair in braids. At an assembly she told the young men if they’re sitting between the legs of a girl getting their hair braided for a few hours, that they must be gay… If you’re pregnant or homosexual, you’re not welcome to Haywood County High School.

Florida's Stand Your Ground Law Is For Whites Only

It took nearly a year’s worth of violent physical abuse before Marissa Alexanderdecided to stand her ground against her husband.

On Aug. 1, 2010, her husband cornered her in their Jacksonville, Fla., home. Alexander said she ran to the garage to escape, but the garage door was jammed, so Alexander grabbed a pistol. Her husband, Rico Gray, 36, saw the gun and threatened to kill her, Alexander would later say in court documents.

Fearing for her life, she raised the pistol above her head and squeezed the trigger, the crackle of gunfire pelting the kitchen ceiling.

While the shooting may have gotten Alexander out of one jam, it put her in another: She has been in a Florida jail since 2010 awaiting a mandatory sentence of 20 years in prison for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The 31-year-old mother of three has said that she believes she had a legal right to protect herself that day under Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, which gives citizens expanded rights to use force when threatened with bodily harm. But moments after the shooting, Gray ran outside and called police alleging that Alexander shot at him and his two sons. Alexander was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Gray later changed his story about the shooting. During a court hearing to determine whether or not Alexander could be protected under the Stand Your Ground Law, Gray said he'd lied during his earlier deposition and that he "begged and pleaded for my life when she had the gun."

A judge rejected Alexander’s Stand Your Ground defense, saying that she could have escaped her attacker "through the front or back door," court records say. The State Attorney’s Office offered her a plea deal that would have sent her to prison for a few years, but she rejected it, hoping to convince a jury that she was defending herself.
